Music this week - August 8-14
There's lots going on this weekend, with the Vancouver Bach Festival, Blueridge Chamber Festival, and Midsummer at Mountain View, as well as the Chinatown festival, Kitsfest and the Vancouver Mural Festival, so let's get right to it!
Thursday The CBC Musical Nooner for today is Cannery Row, and the VBF offerings include Shostakovich Preludes with David Jalbert on piano in the afternoon and Strozzi 17th Century Divas in the evening. Harmony Arts Fest Classics by the Sea presents Fluterrific and the Blueridge Chamber Festival kicks off with Hall of Mirrors: Bozzini Quartet (if you haven't already, go read my interview with Dory Hayley for more info about the festival). And finally, if wedding season is getting to be just too much for you, soothe yourself with some music as City Opera Vancouver presents Bridezillas of Opera
Friday Today's CBC performance is Mariachi Los Dorados and the Harmony Arts Fest Hot Jazz Hour presents Grand Slam Jazz Band. Blueridge Chamber Festival continues with Ghost Stories: Borealis String Quartet and the VBF closes with Hail! Bright Cecilia (read more about it in my interview with Alexander Weimann, who will be conducting the Pacific Baroque Orchestra for the festival's finale concert)

Sunday Midsummer at Mountain View presents Brought To You By The Letter J with an afternoon and evening performance (you read my interview with Mark Haney, right?) and there are also concerts with Trio con Brio and the VSO at VanDusen before you finish your night with Blueridge, who are presenting a piano recital Power Ballads: Shoshana Telner
