Music This Week - May 30-June 5

Updated: May 30, 2019

Variety is the spice of life (or is that cumin?) and while this isn't the busiest week for music, it certainly is spicy.

It starts off on Thursday with the Sound of Dragon Ensemble joined by Melody of China in its Vancouver debut.

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the VSO presents Debussy & Ravel: Colour & Image with a program that also includes works by Lili Boulanger and Saint-Saëns.

On Sunday and Wednesday the Pro Nova Ensemble presents a program of quartets and quintets, which you can read about here

Monday is the 70th Birthday Celebration of Alexina Louie, one of Canada’s most highly regarded and performed composers who also has roots in Vancouver

And Tuesday and Wednesday head on over to the events that are part of VICO's Global Soundscapes Festival, including a chance to meet the featured artists and the debut of Debris, a new mini-opera by Rita Ueda that was inspired by the 2011 tsunami and the debris that washed up along the west coast of North America.

And if after all of that you're still in need for more spice, then I don't know what to tell you, maybe go have some Bobby Wings?
