Music this week - May 9-15
The weather has been so beautiful these past few days, don't you wish you had a great soundtrack to go along with it? Well, there's a lot of music happening this weekend, so go to a concert and see if you can find your new favourite work!
The opera festival continues, and it's your last chance to see La Cenerentola before it ends on Sunday.
On Saturday and Sunday, Turning Point Ensemble presents Sounds Unheard, a concert of works by Farangis Nurulla-Khoja - you can read more about the works and Farangis' inspirations in my interview with her.
You'll have a couple of chances to see the shows presented by the VSO and Vetta Chamber Music but the Early Music Vancouver, Laudate Singers, 45th Avenue Jazz Band, and VAM Symphony shows only happen once so you need to go ahead and get your tickets!
The music continues past the weekend as on Monday Standing Wave presents Ex Machina, a musical exploration of the intersections between art, music and technology.
The mid-week music fix is brought to you this week by Alexa Reimer, in a concert presented by the Vancouver Women's Musical Society.
After all that music, you're probably hungry, right? Well, food is great, but do you know what's even better? Food combined with puns. So I insist that you read about this Game of Thrones menu (warning: contains spoilers) and then go make some Tacos al Pas-Tormund, Valar Mor-goulash, or a bowl of Beef Samwell Barley soup and then wash it all down with a mango Khalassi. Not a Game of Thrones fan (but still love puns)? Then instead of watching people fighting and getting their freak on, go to Tamam instead and you can get your freekeh on there.
