Music This Week - November 21-27
There's a wide variety of music to enjoy this week, including a couple of free concerts (for those of you who spent too much at Black Friday!)
Edit: wait, I got the dates mixed up, Black Friday is next week, not this week. So that means you can go to more concerts!
Thursday Enjoy some chamber music today with Sounds of Formosa, featuring the Borealis String Quartet and guests cellist Shih-Lin Chen, harpists Che-Yi Lee, Joy Yeh and Vivian Chen
Friday Pre-game for the night with a Listening Party at the Western Front, then head to the party (and by that I mean a concert) with your choice of UBC Bands' The Automatic Earth: A Concert for the Climate, the West Coast Symphony's Prokofiev, Wagner and Spencer Tsai plays Beethoven, or the VSO's Mozart Requiem And Schubert Unfinished
Saturday Tonight's concerts include Sounds of Formosa featuring the Formosa Concert Orchestra with guest conductor Che-Yi Lee and the Egret Choir, Chez Nous: Christmas with Elektra, UBC Symphony Orchestra's Finzi, Britten & Elgar, the Chutzpah Festival's live-music film The Rescue, and the VSO's Mozart Requiem And Schubert Unfinished
Sunday Lots in both the afternoon and the evening today, with VAMSO's From Graceful to Profane: Tchaikovsky & Shostakovich, UBC Opera's Opera Tea Series, the Chopin Society's presentation of Kevin Kenner, and the Elysian Trio performing as part of Celebrate Canada Music Day (read more about it in an interview with the trio and composers), followed by Formerly Contemporary Piano Music: Piano Students of Corey Hamm at UBC and Scenes From Childhood: TPE and Bergmann Piano Duo (see the interview with the Bergmann Duo)
