Music This Week - October 3-9
Music! This week is features a wide variety of concerts, from classical to pops to kids, so there's lots from which to choose!
Thursday Decisions, decisions...you went to UBC to see a performance, but now you have to choose between Tunes at Noon: Genesis Trio and the UBC Symphonic Wind Ensemble, but whatever your choice, you can still make it to see the VSO's Bonjour Paris, which is part of their Tea and Trumpets series
Friday More decision-making is required today as Standing Wave's Compocon! Premieres! and the UBC Bands start at the same time, as do the Il Centro Gala Fundraiser and the VSO's presentation of Jorge Calandrelli — I Belong To The Stars and they're all in the evening so you can only pick one!
Saturday Another choice must be made as all the performances this evening start at the same time: do you go see Mari Boine, with her trailblazing sounds and a "voice like no other"? Or do you go to the VPO Season Opener which features the Bruch Concerto for Clarinet and Viola, because you don't often get to see clarinetists and violists play solo with an orchestra (which should change!)? Or maybe you missed it last night, and you go to the second performance of Jorge Calandrelli — I Belong To The Stars?
Sunday Aaah, Sunday, and no decision is necessary today! VSO presents Vivaldi’s Ring Of Mystery, which part of their Kids Concerts Series, which follows the story of a gifted young orphan named Katarina, who is sent to study music at the great Pietà orphanage in 17th century Venice under the tutelage of composer Antonio Vivaldi.
Wednesday For your mid-morning music fix, choose between Music in the Morning's presentation of Russell Braun with Carolyn Maule and UBC's Wednesday Noon Hours — Introducing Marina Thibeault (although maybe if you drive really fast then you could make it to both? But don't break any laws!)
Have a great week!
